The anatomic pathology team at Sonic Suisse is concerned with the analysis of samples of tissue, cells and fluids in order to diagnose diseases, monitor their course and develop suitable treatment strategies.

Some key tasks of the Sonic Suisse pathology team are:

  • Histopathology: This concerns the analysis of tissue samples under a microscope in order to identify anomalies, changes, and pathological findings. Histopathology may be used to diagnose cancers, infections, inflammatory diseases and other conditions.
  • Cytology: This involves the analysis of cell samples taken from a range of bodily fluids such as blood, urine, swabs and other tissue fluids. Cytological tests are often used to identify cancers, particularly cervical, bladder, breast and lung cancers, at an early stage.
  • Molecular pathology: It uses molecular techniques such as DNA and RNA analyses to identify genetic alterations in tumours and other tissue samples. This facilitates a more accurate diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancers, as well as the identification of genetic risk factors for certain diseases.
  • Immunohistochemistry: This is a special technique whereby antibodies are used to identify and localise specific proteins in tissue samples. Immunohistochemical tests may assist in distinguishing certain types of tumours and determining the origin of metastases.
