Climate change impact
At Sonic Suisse our carbon offsetting initiatives are aligned with the ISO 14064 standard, which provides a recognized framework for measuring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By adhering to ISO 14064, we ensure that our emission calculations are accurate, transparent, and credible.
This standard also guides the implementation of reduction and offsetting projects, allowing us to effectively track progress toward our climate goals while maintaining the highest level of environmental accountability.
Our contribution to CO₂ reduction
In Mozambique, 1.6 million trees have been planted in recent years with a clear goal: to offset CO₂ emissions and have a lasting positive impact on the region. A choice that also supports local communities and creates jobs—by permanently involving 10 people in the project—and contributes to the restoration of fragile ecosystems. Sustainability is not an abstract concept. It consists of people, territory, and measurable actions.
Peatlands are among the world’s most powerful natural carbon sinks. For this reason, the project to revitalize the Joux-du-Plane peatland (NE) was supported: a concrete environmental restoration effort that has made it possible to restore the water balance and promote the return of the vegetation typical of these unique habitats. Because health is not only protected in laboratories. It is also protected by safeguarding the ecosystems that sustain life.
The energy transition is a strategic lever for structurally reducing the environmental impact of business activities. That is why we have converted the electricity contracts of all our main laboratories to purchase energy from renewable sources. A concrete decision that allows us to power our facilities with certified green electricity, thereby significantly reducing indirect emissions related to energy consumption. Addressing the energy source means taking systematic action and transforming operating costs into an opportunity for environmental responsibility.
Corporate mobility is one of the most significant sources of indirect emissions. For this reason, we have expanded our hybrid fleet with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of travel between locations and partner healthcare facilities. The introduction of hybrid vehicles makes it possible to lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions while ensuring operational efficiency and logistical reliability.
In addition to the hybrid fleet, Sonic Suisse promotes the integration of fully electric vehicles and the use of e-bikes for short distances in the city. Electric vehicles drastically reduce direct emissions and help reduce noise pollution in urban centers. E-bikes, on the other hand, represent a sustainable and efficient solution for urban transportation while promoting an active lifestyle for staff.
Energy management
In addition, we actively engage in energy management initiatives, including optimizing electricity use, upgrading to energy-efficient systems, and promoting sustainable practices across our operations.
Waste management
Waste management is a key part of our commitment to sustainability and responsible corporate practice. At Sonic Suisse, we actively engage in comprehensive waste management to minimize our environmental footprint.
By implementing recycling programs, proper disposal of hazardous materials, and energy recovery initiatives, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve valuable resources.
These efforts not only help prevent pollution and lower CO2 emissions but also support a healthier environment for our employees and the communities we serve.
Our contribution to waste management
Every piece of waste that is incinerated is a resource we were unable to recover. Reducing the proportion of waste destined for incineration means taking action upstream: rethinking processes, improving sorting, selecting more sustainable materials, and reducing operational waste. In laboratories, this leads to more careful procedures, constant monitoring of waste streams, and ongoing training. The goal is clear: to gradually reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste and convert current waste into material that can be reintegrated into the production cycle. Less incineration means fewer emissions and smarter use of resources.
Sustainability is not a requirement. We build it together. Every employee is an active part of responsible waste management: from proper sorting to reducing daily waste. Through internal initiatives, training, and the involvement of Green Teams at various locations, environmental culture becomes an integral part of the work. When people understand the impact of their actions, change becomes natural. The difference lies not in written rules, but in daily behavior.
Even in a technical and regulated context like the laboratory, recycling is possible. A structured program for the separation and recovery of materials has been implemented that is compatible with health and safety regulations. Plastics, cardboard, packaging materials, and other uncontaminated streams are identified and returned to recycling loops. The result is more efficient resource management and a concrete reduction in environmental impact, without compromising quality and safety standards.
In the healthcare sector, the management of hazardous waste is a key task. Biological, chemical, or potentially hazardous materials are handled according to strict protocols and in full compliance with current regulations. Traceability, safety, and collaboration with certified partners ensure controlled and compliant disposal. In this sector, sustainability primarily means protecting people and the environment through transparent and verifiable processes.
The ongoing digitization of administrative and operational processes has significantly reduced paper consumption. Digital reports, electronic requests, electronic archiving, and internal online communication help limit waste. Less paper means less production, less transportation, and less disposal. A choice that improves efficiency and reduces the environmental footprint.
Sustainability is also measured in small gestures. Corporate gifts are selected with a preference for eco-friendly products, recycled or reusable materials, and local suppliers. The goal is not only to reduce environmental impact but also to convey a message that aligns with the company’s values.
Every decision, even a symbolic one, contributes to building credibility. Because sustainability is not a campaign, but a way of life.
